Day 8: On the Run

So I finally forced myself to go to the gym today for the first time since I started this mess. See, I never really liked running until I made a work-out playlist of my favorite songs. Since then, running has gotten easier. I even ran a 5K.

But today I couldn't even run a mile. I ran about two-thirds of a mile, and physically couldn't do it anymore. My lungs hurt and I felt like someone had dumped a five-gallon bucket of stand down my throat. So after about two songs, I ripped my earbuds out and ran the rest of the way with only the music coming from VH1's Jumpstart, which was on the TV.

I finished running, and became inherently angry. I went to the rowing machines and played the fish game for about three minutes. Then I grabbed a mat and did a few sets of the ab workout I normally do. Then I went home, realizing that nothing I had done really did much for my body at all.

It isn't very inspiring to work out when you know you'll be listening to Nickelback. And, judging from today, it's apparently impossible. So by the end of this, I won't only be angry, irritable, and run-down. I'll also be out of shape.

Had a thought for you.

Devote this semester to cross training?

Maybe instead of running to your favorite mixes, take some classes at whatever gym you have a membership at.

"Free" exposure to outside music AND keeping in shape.

You know you want to. :)
